Cure That New Year's Hangover with Ruby Red Grapefruit
If you aren't used to drinking, or don't normally drink heavily, you can end up with quite a hangover on New Year's Day after overindulging on New Year's Eve. Make sure that you have plenty of Ruby Red grapefruit on hand to help you cure those hangover blues. Hangovers occur when your body becomes dehydrated from processing the alcohol in your system. If the fluids, vitamins and minerals that your body needs aren't replenished you end up with a killer headache and a lot of general aches and pains. The proper way to cure a hangover involves a two pronged approach:
Before you go to bed – Since hangovers occur as a result of dehydration you can take steps during the night to prevent dehydration. Instead of drinking shots of pure alcohol try drinking mixed drinks, especially citrus drinks with orange juice or grapefruit juice in them. The vitamins and minerals in the juice will help slow down the dehydration of the body and keep your body running efficiently. This is especially important if you haven't eaten a lot before you start drinking. If you know you're going to be drinking heavily it's a good idea to eat something carb heavy, like bread or crackers, before you start drinking. Also, try to make each cocktail last for at least half an hour. The slower you drink the more time your body will have to process the incoming alcohol before more alcohol is added to the mix. Once you're done drinking for the night try to get in one eight to twelve ounce glass of Ruby Red grapefruit juice before you go to sleep. During the time you're sleeping the juice will help restore your electrolyte balance and keep you from becoming dehydrated.
After you wake up – If you still wake up with a raging headache and other hangover symptoms reach for orange juice or Ruby Red grapefruit juice instead of water. Your body will need the vitamins and minerals and you probably won't feel much like eating. If you can't keep any solid food down try making a grapefruit juice smooth with a banana, fresh Ruby Red grapefruit juice, apple juice, and some yogurt. That way you will still get the nutrients you need without having to eat solid food. Keep yourself as hydrated as possible and the hangover should go away within a few hours. Make sure that you get plenty of rest.
